About Us
About Pacific Mountain Guides
At Pacific Mountain Guides, we specialize in world-class hunting and adventure experiences in Valdez Alaska’s rugged coastline and mountains. Since establishment in 2003, we’ve built a reputation for professionalism, success, and genuine Alaskan hospitality — offering hunts that are as rewarding as the landscapes themselves.
Our Story
Pacific Mountain Guides was originally founded by Otto Kulm, a respected Alaskan outdoorsman in coastal guiding. Otto built the foundation of the company on integrity, hard work, and a deep respect for the wild places and wildlife of Alaska. His leadership helped shape what we have become.
Following Otto’s passing, Tim Bouchard continued his legacy — carrying forward the same dedication to quality, ethical hunting, and the love for Alaska that Otto instilled from the very beginning. Under Tim’s leadership, Pacific Mountain Guides has grown while staying true to its roots: small groups, hands-on guiding, and a genuine commitment to the Alaskan experience.
What We Do
We offer fully guided hunts for mountain goat, brown bear, black bear, and sea duck, along with customized coastal adventures. Whether you’re glassing for a trophy billy high in the Chugach or watching a brown bear emerge from the alder flats, our focus remains the same — a safe, ethical, and unforgettable Alaskan hunt.
Our hunts are run with a low guide-to-client ratio, ensuring personal attention and a true wilderness experience.
Our Approach
We’re a locally based, year-round operation, Valdez is our home. Tim and his family live and work here, know the country intimately, and take pride in the details — from scouting and logistics to safety and success.
We operate from boats and spike camps— each carefully chosen for the species and season. This flexibility, combined with decades of local knowledge, keeps our success rates consistently high.

Guiding is what Tim does — from big game to fishing to waterfowl. He lives in Valdez year-round and spends most of those days on the water. When you call PMG, you’ll hear Tim on the other end. As the owner of PMG, he spends much of his time making sure your hunt goes as smoothly as possible. Having hunted in Prince William Sound for the last 20 years, he’ll make sure you have a great experience.

Dave has been with PMG since nearly the beginning, working alongside Otto for years. You’ll see him leading the way during goat season and helping out during the spring bear season. Dave is a fully registered guide and has also started guiding on his own in Western Alaska — keep an eye out for future opportunities on his fly-in moose and caribou hunts.

Jens heads up all of our Alaskan Adventurer trips, from spring bears to multi-day fishing adventures. A 20-year U.S. Coast Guard retiree, he keeps all our clients safe and comfortable while on the water. He’s our head bear guide for the entire spring season, and you’ll find him on the mountaintops once goat season rolls around.

Austin hails from Michigan but spends every spring, summer, and fall here in Alaska. He first worked at the renowned Stony River Lodge and is now going into his fifth season guiding for us. You’ll find him chasing spring brown bears, chartering for silver salmon, and heading up the mountains for goats in the fall.

Born and raised in Alaska, Jeremy knows adventure in the Last Frontier. As a year-round guide with us, you’ll find him on the water or in the field most days. After working his way up over the past few years, he’s now one of our full-time goat guides — and he had a fantastic season last year.

Dave is one of our great local teachers, but all spring and summer you’ll find him aboard the Alaskan Adventurer. He starts the season with our black bear hunts and then leads our long-range, multi-day fishing trips through the summer.

Chad is one of our local law enforcement officers but takes time off to help guide our fall goat hunts. He’s had great success with our bow hunters and has claimed “Booner Ridge” as his own — one of our toughest hikes, but well worth it.

Otto will always be part of what we do in spirit, we know he is up there smiling every time we harvest a big brown bear.
There was never a man that was happier on his boat and out hunting.
Jessica, Brock and Sadie Jo will continue to be part of the company and come out on trips any chance they can get.
Please be advised that all of our trips are physically demanding, so the success & enjoyment of your trip is greatly dependent upon your own capabilities. If you are also looking for guaranteed Fish & Game out of the Ritz Hotel, then you should go to a high fence ranch or a fish farm. We are in it for the challenge & respect of a fair chase adventure!
