Alaska Brown Bear Hunts

- Coastal Alaska Brown Bear Hunts -

admin_logoWe operate on a private lands concession & a federal special usealaska brown bear hunts permit for coastal Brown Bear in unit 6. This area has been a consistent producer of coastal brown bears squaring 8.5′ – 9.5′, with a fair number of 10`+ bears available too.

This is an excellent guide use area with limited pressure, located along the rugged gulf coast. All our coastal brown bear hunts are conducted in the spring. We hunt most of May and focus on active bears that are just out of hibernation and coming to the shoreline and grass flats for their main spring food source- fresh emerging plants and kelp.  With snow on the ground and their digestive systems just starting up for the summer they need this plant matter and the water’s edge is the only place it is growing in the early spring.

All of our transportation & accommodations are on our live-aboard vessel “Alaskan Adventurer”, a 70′ motor yacht that has all the comforts of home.  You will enjoy your own private stateroom during our brown bear hunts.  All of our hunting is done by leaving “Alaskan Adventurer” in 18’-22’ skiffs and cursing the coastline and glassing grass flats in the evenings.   While glassing having good optics is critical, you will spend a lot of time looking through binos, both for bears and there is lot of other wildlife to see also – otter, whales, seals, and many species of birds.

- Daily Routine -

Our spring Alaska brown bear hunts are our most relaxing hunts!  Like to sleep in?  Well this is your dream hunt.  Mornings are spent hanging out on Castaways swapping hunting stories, watching hunting DVD, and just relaxing.  Breakfast is typically served around 10am, it is a full on hunters breakfast – eggs, bacon, hashbrown, pancakes, ect.IMG_2994

We then get ready to go hunt for the day.  We normally push off in the skiffs around 2pm, some days a little earlier to go catch a halibut for dinner.  Prime time for the big boys we are looking for is typically right at dusk.  The big guys are pretty nocturnal even in early spring, so we are catching them right as they come out to feed.

We typically travel back Castaways in the dark, almost at midnight.  We then get settled in and start cooking dinner, which is normally served between midnight and 2am.  And now you know why we have a relaxing morning!

- Travel To Us -

Travel into Valdez is one of the easiest places in Alaska.  There is a quick 45 minute commercial flights twice a day from Anchorage you have a good amount of options to get into town and avoid expensive bush flights.  Once in Valdez we will pick you up and bring you to Castaways to get settled in.  The first morning we will make sure your rifle is sighted in after the long air travel, make sure license are ready to go and head off in Castaway to the hunting areas.
